At 100-plus years, the DJIA is a price-weighted index that is the oldest continuing U.S. market index and has evolved into the most recognizable stock indicator in the world. It is the most widely quoted indicator of U.S. stock market activity and the only index composed of companies that have sustained earnings performance over a significant period of time.
