Klepierre (LI.PA) is Europe’s second-largest stock exchange listed owner and operator of shopping malls. The French company is a REIT (real estate investment trust) and is listed on the Paris Euronext Stock Exchange. It is a member of the CAC Next 20 index, which is formed of the 20 largest companies in France by market capitalisation, after the CAC 40, which is comprised of the largest 40. Klepierre is headquartered in Paris. Not all of the REIT’s shares are publicly listed, with just over a fifth of the company’s ownership held by the Simon Property Group, the US commercial property group. Dutch pension fund APG also holds an ownership stake of around 13%.
In 2015, Klepierre completed the acquisition of Corio NV, a Dutch competitor. The deal saw the REIT take over a European retail property portfolio worth €7 billion, spread over shopping centre properties inFrance, Germany , Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Turkey. As of 2017, the whole Klepierre portfolio held a valuation of nearly€24 billion. The company owns and operates 150 shopping centres and malls across 16 countries. The majority of the portfolio is concentrated in Europe, with a focus on urban centres.
