Matador Resources Firm is a privately held energy company focused on exploring, developing, producing, and purchasing oil and natural gas resources in the United States, with a particular emphasis on shale and other unconventional areas. Its present activities are concentrated on the oil and liquids-rich area of the Delaware Basin's Wolfcamp and Bone Spring plays in south-eastern New Mexico and west Texas. Additionally, it operates in south Texas' Eagle Ford shale play, as well as in north-western Louisiana and east Texas' Haynesville shale and Cotton Valley plays. Established in 2003, the company is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

Matador Resources Company was founded by Joseph Wm. Foran and Scott E. King with an initial $6m equity investment. Investors donated an additional $46.8m shortly afterwards, bringing the total initial capitalisation to $52.8m. The business objective of Matador Resources Company is to maximise shareholder value by increasing oil and natural gas reserves, production, and cash flows while maintaining an attractive rate of return on invested capital.
