Old Dominion Freight Line Inc is an American regional, inter-regional, and national shipping company engaged in the provision of less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services across the United States. The firm was originally founded in 1934, when it essentially consisted of one truck, that ran a set 94-mile route within the state of Virginia. The firm is headquartered in Thomasville, North Carolina.
In 2001, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc acquired Carter and Sons Trucking, allowing the firm to expand into Nevada, Nebraska, Oregon, and Washington State, as well as paving the way for the company to introduce its first direct service to Canada. The company now offers a wide range of freight and shipping services operating via 249 service centres and 32 transfer points to provide a high-quality LTL transportation service to the 10 major geographical regions and thousands of direct shipping points in the lower 48 states.
Old Dominion Freight Line also offers, through agents or strategic partnerships, access to services across international borders, including Canada, Mexico, Europe, and China. The firm went public in 1991 and trades on the NASDAQ under the stock ticker ODFL.
