Origin Energy Ltd is an integrated energy company that generates electricity from a range of sources, supplies liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to customers, offers electric and gas hot water systems, and explores for and produces natural gas. Founded in 1946, the company is headquartered in Barangaroo, Australia, and operates internationally.

Origin Energy Limited operates through two segments: Energy Markets and Integrated Gas. The company owns an extensive exploration and production portfolio, including properties in the Beetaloo basin in the Northern Territory, the Browse basin in Western Australia, and the Bowen and Surat basins in Queensland. Origin Energy generates electricity from cogeneration, solar, pumped water storage, wind and coal plants, in addition to providing a range of heating and cooling systems as well as hot water system repair and replacement services.

In May 2020, Origin Energy announced the purchase of a 20% stake in Octopus Energy, a UK-based energy technology group. This agreement included a license to use Octopus’ technology platform Kraken in Australia. In December 2021, the company announced the acquisition of WINconnect Pty Ltd in a deal that added 87,000 electrical and hot water customers to Origin. Origin Energy’s stock has been listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the ticker ORG since March 1999.
