POSCO is a South Korean steel manufacturing company and is one of the world’s largest steel producers. Originally founded in 1968 as Pohang Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., the firm is based in Pohang-Si, South Korea. It has an annual capacity of 42 million tons of steel and steel products, and exports its products — including hot rolled sheets, steel plate, stainless steel, and wire rod — across the globe, serving customers in 53 countries worldwide.
The firm trades on the NYSE, where it is listed under the stock ticker PKX. As of January 2021, the PKX price chart was showing a 52-week high of $67.39 and a 52-week low of $26.27, with a dividend yield of 2.60%.
POSCO steel products are widely used across a number of industries, including automotive, construction, energy, industrial machinery, shipbuilding and home appliances. The firm won the 2020 Global Metals Award for ‘Steel Industry Leadership’ and the 2019 ‘Innovation of the Year’ category at the Steelie Awards. POSCO also topped three categories at the 2020 Global Standard Management Awards, including ‘Sustainable Management’ and ‘Social Contribution’.
