Corn is a cereal grain that was first domesticated in Southern Mexico approximately 10,000 years ago. Corn is grown in most temperate areas of the world, often being planted in early to late spring to be harvested in the autumnal months. After harvest, it is transported to be milled, processed and exported or sold.

Corn grain is an edible food source for animals and is the most widely produced feed grain in the US, making up over 95% of total feed grain usage and production. Corn is used as an ingredient in the production of sweetened syrups and corns starch, as well as to make ethanol, a domestically produced biofuel that is used in the manufacturing of medication, plastic, and cosmetics. While originally native to Mexico, the grain was introduced to to Europe through colonosation before it was later globalised.

Several elements can influence the price movements of corn, such as the state of the ethanol market, crude oil prices, inflation rates, climate factors and current demand. The price changes of corn are often closely correlated with similar natural grain commodities, such as wheat and barley. Corn is tracked as an expiry future traded on the CME exchange.
