What Is Gasoline?
Gasoline is a burnable fuel made from processed crude oil. Gasoline typically contains a mix of many different hydrocarbons such as petroleum, butane, and other flammable liquids. To make gasoline, crude oil is broken down into different petroleum products through a process of distillation. It is typically blended with other liquids to make it suitable to be used as fuel for cars and other forms of transportation. After this process, it is transported to various gas stations through gasoline pipelines.

Crude oil was first distilled in 1859 to make kerosene, with gasoline being a by-product of this process. Gasoline is most commonly used as an energy-dense fuel for transportation like cars and trucks, but it can also be used for smaller aircrafts, boats, electricity generators, and farming and landscaping tools.

When compared to other similar products, gasoline is the largest sold refined liquid in the US alone, accounting for almost half of the country's total oil consumption. Gasoline prices can move as a result of several different influences, such as the price of crude oil, refinement processing costs, the expenses of distribution and transportation, as well as taxation effects. Gasoline is tracked as an expiry future traded on the CME exchange.
