Lockheed Martin Corporation is a global security and aerospace company primarily engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services, in the areas of aerospace, arms, defence, and information security. The firm was formed by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta in 1995, and is headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland,

Lockheed Martin has over 375 facilities globally, employing around 114,000 people and working with 16,000 active suppliers, across every state in the US and in more than 50 countries worldwide. The firm operates across four broad business areas: Aeronautics, Missiles and Fire Control, Rotary and Mission Systems, and Space.

The majority of the firm’s business is with the U.S. Department of Defence and U.S. federal government agencies. The firm’s subsidiary, Sikorsky, provides military and rotary-wing aircraft to all five branches of the U.S. armed forces along with military services and commercial operators in 40 other nations. In 2018, the company won three Edison Awards for ground-breaking innovations in autonomy, satellite technology and directed energy. The firm trades on the NYSE under the stock ticker LMT.
