Formerly known as NextEV Inc., the company changed its name to Nio, Inc. in July 2017. It sells its vehicles through a network of Nio Houses, which act as showrooms as well as clubhouses, and a mobile application. The company also provides vehicle charging solutions, which include Power Home, Power Swap, Power Mobile, and Power Express. Along with its automobile development and manufacturing activities, Nio offers a clothing line, service centres, and battery swap stations.

Nio stock is listed on the NYSE under the ticker NIO. In addition to its other products and services, the company offers various value-added services, including car damage, liability, and third-party liability insurance through third-party insurers, repair and routine maintenance services, and roadside assistance. Nio has the financial backing of several high-profile investors, including Lenovo, Baidu, and TPG.
