The company operates some brick-and-mortar stores but is essentially a worldwide, web-based consignment store that offers various luxury, pre-owned items for resale across numerous product categories, including women's clothing, men's clothing, handbags, shoes, and watches, as well as home décor and art products. The RealReal has an international customer base, along with a global network of sellers who sell on consignment through its website.

The RealReal has more than 24 million members on its online marketplace. In addition, it manages 19 retail locations, where it also offers repairs services to help preserve apparel, accessories, fine jewellery, and watches.

Shares are traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker REAL. The used luxury goods market is expected to see continued strong growth, with predictions suggesting that it will outgrow the fast fashion industry by 2028. The RealReal is committed to supporting diversity and to working towards a more sustainable future by extending the life cycle of luxury goods. In 2021, the company launched its ReCollection program for upcycling damaged luxury goods, in partnership with top designer brands, giving these items a new life instead of sending them to a landfill.
