The SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF is an exchange traded fund that seeks to provide investment results that track the total investment return of the S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Select Industry Index, an index designed to track the oil and gas segment of the S&P Total Market Index. The fund is managed by State Street Global Advisors, the asset management division of State Street Corporation, a major investment firm with around $3.86bn in assets under management, established in 1978 and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

The index comprises the following sub-industries: Integrated Oil & Gas, Oil & Gas Exploration & Production, and Oil & Gas Refining & Marketing. The index is a modified equal weighted index and the fund aims to provide investors with the potential for unconcentrated industry exposure across large, mid and small cap stocks.

The fund has a quarterly distribution frequency and generally invests all, and never less than 80%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF is listed on the NYSE where it trades under the stock ticker XOP.
