A Chinese sports and apparel company, Anta Sports was founded in 1994 by Ding Shizhong. From its Jinjiang headquarters, Anta Sports designs and manufactures sportswear under its own brand. The company greatly expanded its operations during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, especially in the area of footwear. Anta Sports purchased Fila China in 2009, adding 600 additional locations to its existing chain of stores that totaled over 6,000 at the time.
2020.HK stock is available on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, having gone public in 2007. Anta Sports was able to raise $406 million as a result, with the price per share valued at HK$5.28. Leslie Lee Alexander, the owner of the NBA franchise Houston Rockets, was the cornerstone investor of the IPO. This is not happenstance, as Chinese basketball player Yao Ming played for the team at the time.
Anta Sports has been involved heavily in sponsorships of global superstar athletes. Some notable basketball players who have signed sponsorship deals with Anta Sports include: Klay Thompson, Kevin Garnett, Gordon Hayward and Rajon Rondo. Outside of basketball, the most notable athlete signed with Anta Sports is boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. The company was the apparel sponsor of the Chinese national team that participated at the Rio Olympics.
