What Is JD.com Inc?
JD.com Inc. is one of the two largest B2C e-commerce companies in China. Headquartered in Beijing, it is the main competitor to the Alibaba-owned Tmall giant and a member of the Fortune Global 500. Founded in 1998 by internet entrepreneur Liu Qiangdong, JD.com Inc. began as a magneto-optical retailer but rapidly diversified after moving online in 2004. It sells electronic products as well as general merchandise such as books, video products, garments, household items and audio to the Chinese market. The company operates through two segments. Its JD Mall segment is its core e-commerce business, while its New Business segment operates logistics services for third parties, technology services, insurance and overseas clients. The company also hosts an online marketplace that enables third-party vendors to sell products to customers through JD.com’s websites and mobile apps.

Between 2014 and the end of 2019, its revenue grew by 38.51% and capital spending by 15.3%. JD.com Inc. saw earnings of $0.39 per share in August 2020, representing a year-on-year increase of 18.18%. The company’s share price reached a four-year annual close price high of $62.90 on the Nasdaq in 2020.
