Formerly known as Caterpillar Tractor Co., the company operates through five segments: Construction Industries, Resource Industries, Energy & Transportation, Financial Products, and All Other. Caterpillar's Construction Industries segment supports machinery used in the forestry, infrastructure, and building construction industries, while the Resource Industries segment handles machinery used in mining, quarry, waste, heavy construction, and material handling. The Energy & Transportation segment handles machinery used in oil and gas, marine, power generation, rail, and industrial applications. Through its Financial Products segment, the company provides financing and related services, while product management and development and the manufacturing of filters and fluids falls under the All Other operating segment.
