Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais (CEMIG) is a holding company based in Brazil that generates, transmits, and distributes electricity. Incorporated in 1952, CEMIG has its headquarters in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
CEMIG operates through its Generation, Transmission, and Distributions divisions. Through its Generation division, the company handles the operation of hydroelectric plants, photovoltaic plants, and wind farms. CEMIG's Transmission division handles the transport of power from its facilities to distribution networks and free consumers, while the Distribution division handles the transfer of electricity from distribution substations to the final consumers.
Available on the NYSE, CEMIG stock is listed under the ticker CIG. As of 31st December, 2020, CEMIG has 89 hydroelectric, wind, and solar plants in operation with an installed capacity of 6,000 MW, as well as 339,086 miles of distribution lines. As of 27th January, 2021, CEMIG also operates 4,374 miles of transmission lines. In addition to its electrical operations, the company also distributes natural gas within the state of Minas Gerais. CEMIG has made several donations over the years to promote the sustainable use of energy and reduce maintenance costs for charitable and public organisations, including replacing light bulbs, electric showers, refrigerators, and freezers with more modern and efficient ones.
