Camden Property Trust (CPT) is one of the most significant real estate investment trades (REIT) targeted specifically at multifamily community apartments. Headquartered in Texas, the trust owns, manages and develops luxury apartments across the US, with more than 56,000 properties in its portfolio in 159 managed communities. The organisation was established in 1982, and its owners decided to make Camden Property Trust a public company in 1993.
The Trust trades on the NYSE under the CPT ticker. When it was first floated, the CPT share price rose consistently as the management completed a series of acquisitions. The purchases included the Paragon Group in 1997, Oasis Residential in 1998 and Summit Properties in 2005 for a combined $2.2bn. The CPT chart has witnessed a gradual increase since 1993 and, as of August 2020, has a market cap of 8.5bn.
In addition to its residential holdings, Camden Property Trust owns and operates commercial properties including retail space, office units and mixed-use areas. The trust has more than 215,000 sq. ft. of commercial real estate in its portfolio. The holistic approach to property development meant that the trust ranked 19th in Forbes’ Best Companies list in 2020.
