Fevertree Drinks plc, also known as Fever-Tree, is a drink mixer company that was founded in 2004. The company was started by Charles Rolls and Tim Warrillow, and currently serves over 70 countries around the world. The name of the company is also the name of the company’s first brand, high quality tonic water. The company has since expanded to offer Bitter Lemon, Sicilian Lemon Tonic, Smoky Ginger Ale and much more.
Fevertree Drinks went public in 2014, listed on the London Stock Exchange. Traded as FEVR.L, the company’s initial valuation was over £150 million. Prior to its IPO, the company sold a quarter of its shares to Lloyds Development Capital, a British private equity firm.
The initial product offered by the company was extracted from a tree that was dubbed the Fever Tree in India. But the name is quite common in other regions of the world. Fever Tree, also known as Vachellia xanthophloea, was believed to cause sickness, by European settlers in Africa. The reality was that the tree’s swampy habitat was the home of mosquitos that infected the settlers with malaria.
