Crown Castle International is a real estate investment trust that serves the communications industry by providing such infrastructures as cell towers and route miles of fibre. Incorporated in 2014, CCI operates in the US and has its headquarters in Houston, Texas. As of 2021, it has almost 100 offices across the US.
Through the thousands of cell towers and route miles of fibre that it owns, leases, or operates, CCI makes its shared communications infrastructure available to subscribers across the US. Two of CCI’s key components are the Towers segment and the Fibers segment. The Towers segment furnishes access – in terms of space and/or capacity – to CCI’s towers distributed across the US. The Fibers segment furnishes access – in terms of space and/or capacity – to CCI’s route miles of fibre that provide support to fibre solutions and small cell networks across the US.
Its long-term contracts come in the form of leases, subleases, service agreements, and licenses. Apart from its cell towers and route miles of fibre, CCI also has small cells (either on air or under contract), on-net buildings, and connected data centres, PoPs, and COs. CCI trades on the NYSE under the ticker CCI.
