Roto-Rooter is a plumbing, drain cleaning, and water clean-up company that operates within the United States and Canada, while VITAS Healthcare Corporation provides end-of-life hospice care within the United States. Incorporated in 1970, Chemed has its headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Chemed operates through two segments: Roto-Rooter and VITAS. Roto-Rooter was founded in 1935 and offers a wide range of plumbing repair and maintenance, water clean-up, and drain cleaning services. The company offers its services to homeowners, businesses, and municipalities through 127 company-owned branches and independent contractors, as well as 369 franchisees as of November 2021. As of December 31, 2020, VITAS Healthcare Corporation operates 48 hospice programs throughout 14 states and the District of Columbia, employing approximately 11,500 healthcare professionals. In 2020, VITAS cared for over 90,000 patients, primarily in patients' homes, but also within hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.
