Lithium Americas Corp is a Canadian lithium mining and production company operating in the USA and Argentina. Founded in 2007, Lithium Americas has its headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, and aims to produce enough lithium to significantly reduce reliance on foreign supplies.

The firm is focused on the advancement of two world class lithium projects: the Cauchari-Olaroz project based in Jujuy, Argentina, and the Thacker Pass project in Nevada. Proposed production from the Thacker Pass project is anticipated to meet most or all of the demand for lithium within the USA. Formerly known as Western Lithium USA Corporation, the company changed its name to Lithium Americas Corp. in March 2016.

Listed on the NYSE, stock for Lithium Americas is available under the ticker LAC. Lithium Americas Corp operates through multiple subsidiary companies, including the Lithium Nevada Corp, Western Energy Development, Millenial Lithium Corp, Exar Capital B.V., Potassium S.A. and RheoMinerals Inc. In January 2022, Lithium Americas acquired Millenial Lithium, including its Pastos Grandes lithium brine project in Salta, Argentina. The acquisition is expected to strengthen the company’s asset base and growth pipeline in Argentina. The cost of the deal was estimated at $400m.
