Merck Inc is a leading global healthcare company and is the main company of The Merck Group, a German multinational corporation headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany. The group was founded in 1668, making it the oldest pharmaceutical and chemical company in the world, and now includes around 250 companies in total, employing 57,000 people worldwide. The firm serves a global customer base, with a presence in 66 countries. The firm’s corporate headquarters are in Kenilworth, New Jersey.

Merck Inc. operates across multiple sectors, including healthcare, life sciences and performance materials. The firm’s healthcare innovations span many areas, such as endocrinology, oncology, fertility, general medicine, and neurodegenerative diseases. The firm also researches cancer, cardio-metabolic diseases, emerging animal diseases, Alzheimer’s disease and infectious diseases including HIV and Ebola.

The firm offers health solutions through its prescription medicines, vaccines, biologic therapies and animal health products. Merck is also involved in the development of performance materials across various different sectors, such as architecture, functional solutions, semi-conductors and opto-electronics. The company went public in 1995, and trades on the NYSE where it is listed under the stock ticker MRK.
