The firm operates as a global provider of cloud computing solutions, offering a variety of solutions for a range of clients worldwide. The firm was founded in 1977 as Software Development Laboratories, later becoming Relational Software Inc., and finally changing its name to Oracle Corporation in 1982.

The firm primarily serves companies in the areas of software as a service, platform as a service, infrastructure as a service, and data as a service. Oracle technologies enable customers to build, deploy, run, manage, and support their internal and external products, services, and business operations.

In 2018, the firm launched the Oracle Autonomous Database, the industry’s first self-patching, self-tuning, self-managing database. The firm has grown over the years via a number of strategic acquisitions. Companies acquired by Oracle include DataFox, CrowdTwist, NetSuite, Moat, and Talari Networks. The firm became a public company in 1986 and is listed on the NYSE where it trades under the stock ticker ORCL.
