Suzano SA is one of the leading eucalyptus pulp and paper manufacturers in Latin America. Originally founded in 1924 as Suzano Papel e Cellulose, the company opened its first paper mill 17 years later in Sao Paolo, and in 1955, it began to make pulp from eucalyptus in an innovative move. Suzano’s main business units are pulp, paper, tissue, lignin, celluloses, Eucafluff, and biotechnology. It supplies its wide portfolio of products to customers worldwide. The company is headquartered in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The company has an annual paper and pulp production capacity of around 5 million tons. Suzano operates the only pulp port facility in Brazil, Portocel, first constructed in 1985. In 2010, Suzano acquired a full stake in Futuragene, a biotechnology company working on enhancing the productivity of forestry. Sustainability is a focus for the company, and in 2021, Suzano joined a global initiative working towards the decarbonisation of the world economy.
