Founded in 1997 with headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas, the firm serves millions of residential and commercial customers across the United States and Canada. The Waste Connections Canadian headquarters are located in Vaughn, Ontario.

The company is listed on the Toronto stock exchange, where it trades under the stock ticker WCN. In January 2021, the WCN share price showed a 52-week high of $111.01 and a 52-week low of $70.87. In 2020, the firm announced it would be paying a quarterly cash dividend to all common shareholders. The quoted dividend yield was 0.80% in January 2021. In March 2020, the company announced plans to offer senior notes in an underwritten public offering.
