Wise PLC. is a fintech company that provides money transfer services across currencies and countries. The company offers personal and business multi-currency accounts. Operating internationally, Wise has a client base of more than 10 million people worldwide. Kristo Käärmann and Taavet Hinrikus founded the company in 2010 and launched in 2011, with its headquarters in London, United Kingdom.

The company was formerly known as Transfer Wise Limited. Wise’s products allow people to manage their finances wherever they are and the software is compatible and can be used on mobile devices. These products include functions to send and receive money from abroad, enable multi-currency banking, and integrate alternate payment methods. Further services include online currency exchanges. Wise aims to eliminate hidden expenses on money transfers.

Wise went public on 7 July 2021 via a direct public listing on the London Stock Exchange. The company chose a direct listing as they felt it was a more cost-effective way to expand their ownership. Wise shares opened trading at £8 and closed at £8.80, which valued the company at £8.75bn. Wise PLC. uses the WISE.L stock ticker on the LSE.
