Woolworths Group Ltd is the second-largest retail company in Australia. It was founded in 1924 and is headquartered in Sydney. Its divisions include the country’s Metro and Countdown supermarkets, BWS, Langton’s, Big W and the hotel chain ALH Group. It has interests in food, liquor and finance. It also owns extensive assets in gambling but announced in 2019 that it intends to sell them off.

The firm owns 3,000 stores across the country as of March 2022. It employs over 200,000 members of staff across its operations, including workers who directly serve over 29 million customers per week. Woolworths Group divides its operations into in five different sections: Australian Food, New Zealand Food, Endeavour Drinks, BIG W, and Hotels. The firm has also offered its own branded credit card in partnership with HSBC.

The company was formerly known as Woolworth Limited and officially changed its title to Woolworths Group Ltd in December 2017. As of March 2022, the group is led by Gordon Cairns, the company’s chairperson. Cairns was appointed the role of chairperson in September 2015. Woolworths Group Ltd is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the stock ticker ASX: WOW.
