Stem, Inc. is an American energy company engaged in AI-enabled smart energy storage, delivering and operating battery storage solutions that maximize renewable energy generation and enable greener, cleaner energy solutions. The company operates across 950 sites, working with more than 40 utility partners, in 75 locations across 260 cities, primarily within the United States. The firm was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Stem Inc. customers include Fortune 500 companies, project developers, utilities, and independent power producers. The firm’s Athena software is the most utilized, validated, and successful Distributed Energy Resources (DER) optimization software in the world, helping lower energy costs across the world’s largest network of distributed energy storage systems. Athena is essentially an analytics platform software that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to automatically switch between battery power, onsite generation, and grid power.

The firm operates through the Stem Partner Network, offering support to hundreds of channel partners in deploying standalone storage systems and solar plus storage options. Other solutions offered by Stem Inc. include microgrids and backup power and commercial EV charging solutions. The firm is listed on the NYSE where it trades under the ticker STEM.
