The EMS Group dates back to 1936 and is a global high-performance polymers and specialty chemicals group. EMS has 26 production sites in 16countries. As of December 2018, the EMS Group had 2,939 employees worldwide with 136 apprentices based in Switzerland.

The High Performance Polymers business segment includes two business units: EMS-GRIVORY and EMS-EFTEC. EMS-GRIVORY, which is made up of the three Business Units EMS-GRIVORY Europe, EMS-GRIVORY America and EMS-GRIVORY Asia, is a specialised manufacturer of high-performance polyamides and the supplier with the widest range of polyamide materials. EMS-EFTEC is a global supplier of adhesives, sealants and coatings, including application engineering systems for the automotive industry.

The Specialty Chemicals business segment includes the Business Units EMS-GRILTECH and EMS-PATVAG. EMS-GRILTECH specialises in the development and production of fibres, fusible adhesives and adhesive yarn for technical and textile applications, adhesion promoters for the tyre industry, powder coatings and reactive diluents. EMS-PATVAG specialises in ignitors for airbag gas generators.
