Arkema was established in October 2004, following the reorganisation of Total’s Chemicals branch. This global manufacturer of specialty chemicals and advanced materials operates in 3 business segments: High Performance Materials, Industrial Specialties, and Coating Solutions.

The company is focused on 6 solution-oriented research platforms: lightweight and designed materials, bio-based products, new energies, water management, electronics solutions, and home efficiency and insulation.

Arkema employs 20,000 people and operates in 55 countries around the world.

Altogether, it has 136 production plants, 60 of which are located in Europe, 38 in North America and 38 in Asia and other locations. Between 2006 to 2018, Asia and the rest of the world's share in sales terms rose from 10% to 31%; in North America, sales rose from 25% to 31%.
