The Wendy's Company is an American holding company for the major fast food chain, Wendy's. The firm operates as a quick-service restaurant company, which currently has locations in 30 countries around the world, with operations in North and Latin America, Asia Pacific, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The company was founded in 1969 with the opening of its first restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, and is now headquartered in Dublin, Ohio.
As of December 2021, there are more than 6,780 Wendy’s restaurants in total with around 355 owned and operated by the company. The vast majority of Wendy’s outlets are franchises. The firm is one of the top ten hamburger chain outlets in the United States, and the Wendy’s menu includes typical American fast food items, from burgers and fries to chicken nuggets, chili and baked potatoes, along with soft drinks and desserts.
The firm incorporates a Global Real Estate & Development segment, which includes real estate activity for owned Wendy’s sites and sites leased from third parties, which are then leased or subleased to franchisees. This segment of the business includes the company’s share of the income of its TimWen real estate joint venture. The firm is listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker WEN.
