What Is Oats?
Oats are a cereal grass that has been domesticated. Oats are processed for their edible grains. On average, roughly 22 million metric tons of oats are produced each year around the world. Oats are typically grown in cooler regions with strong levels of sunlight and well-drained soil. Oats are relatively low maintenance compared to other cereal crops and are planted between spring and summer. After the oats are harvested, the stalks are cut and then dried before being processed and milled.

Oats were first domesticated by Scandinavian farmers in approximately 2500 BC, having previously been considered a weed. Oats are commonly produced as a source of animal feed. Oats are also consumed by people in food products such as porridge, baked goods, and oat milk. They are also used in shampoos, soaps, and skincare products due to their amino acid balance and anti-inflammatory qualities.

Supply can influence the price movements of oats - if there is a shortage or surplus of oats, this tends to shift the price in different directions. Other factors that can cause oat prices to fluctuate are weather changes and the pricing rates of similar grains such as corn. The price rates of corn tend to correlate with the price rates of oats, as well as other grains like wheat and barley.
