Orion Oyj is a multinational Finnish pharmaceutical company, primarily engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of pharmaceutical products, active pharmaceutical ingredients and diagnostic tests for global markets. Founded in 1917 and based in Espoo, Finland, the company also has a large research and development unit based in Turku, southwest Finland, in which the company invested €17mn in 2020. The firm’s products are marketed internationally in more than 100 countries.

Orion’s products and services include prescription drugs and self-care products, veterinary medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Research areas the firm focusses on include neurological disorders, oncology, inhalable drugs and animal health. Notably, Orion has produced the Easyhaler, a metered dose inhaler for the treatment of asthma. The firm is a leader in its main market, Finland, but Orion products are also available to a worldwide audience.

Stock for Orion is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange and trades under the ticker ORNBV.HE. The company’s stock has been listed on this exchange since November 2004. In March 2022, Orion announced plans to shift its research and developments efforts towards a focus on cancer treatment and pain management. The company indicated that some existing areas of research would be phased out by autumn 2022.
