The company has some brick-and-mortar stores, but is essentially a worldwide, web-based consignment store, offering various luxury, pre-owned items for resale across numerous product categories, including women's clothing, men's clothing, handbags, shoes, and watches, as well as home décor and art products. The RealReal has an international customer base, along with a global network of sellers who sell on consignment through its website.

The company’s initial public offering in June 2019 raised $300m. Shares are traded on the NASDAQ GS under the ticker REAL. In October 2020, the REAL price chart showed a 52-week low of $5.00 and a 52-week high of $24.51, with a market cap of $51.4bn.

The used luxury goods market is considered to be likely to see continued strong growth, with predictions suggesting that it will outgrow the fast fashion industry by 2028.
