SKALE is an open-source Web3 blockchain network governed by the SKALE decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO). SKALE is a layer 2 scaling solution that allows developers to create high-throughput, low-latency Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain networks, with zero end-user gas fees. These sidechains, referred to as SKALE chains (S-chains), are Ethereum-interoperable and enable the creation of cost-effective decentralised applications (dApps).

Using SKALE modular architecture, new nodes can be utilised to create new chains, increasing computational power across the network and providing SKALE with unlimited capacity. Files, websites, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) can all be stored on-chain, increasing the protocol’s decentralisation. SKALE uses a proof-of-stake consensus and claims to be the most eco-friendly blockchain able to run at global scale.

SKL is the SKALE network’s hybrid-use ERC-777 token. Developers pay SKL in a subscription-based model to allow them to deploy and rent computation, storage, and bandwidth – in the form of S-chains – for a period of time. 50% of the maximum supply of SKL will be distributed to validators and delegators, and the token will be used for governance and on-chain voting within the SKALE network.
