Operating globally, Archer-Daniels-Midland Co is one of the largest food processing companies in the United States. The company was founded in 1902 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It owns and operates a food processing plant, a grain elevator, and a transportation network for raw food materials such as oats, milo, wheat, and barley. In addition to procuring the raw materials, the network of transportation also cleans, stores, and dispenses them to major consumers. Archer Daniels offers its products in over 200 countries, serving its clients with over 400 crop procurement locations, 300 ingredient manufacturing facilities, and 50 innovation centres.
The company’s operations are divided into three segments: Ag Services & Oilseeds, Carbohydrate Solutions, and Nutrition. Any activity during food processing that involves merchandising, transportation, and storage of agricultural raw materials comes under the Ag Services & Oilseeds segment. The Carbohydrate Solutions segment comprises any activity that revolves around the conversion of corn and wheat to useful ingredients within the food and beverage industry. The Nutrition segment deals with the nutritional content of processed food that involves flavouring, preservatives, food enzymes, emulsifiers, and soluble fibres.
