Previously known as Contura Energy, Inc., the company changed its name to Alpha Metallurgical Resources, Inc. in February 2021. The company produces, processes and sells met and thermal coal from underground and surface coal mines located in Virginia and West Virginia. Alpha Metallurgical Resources operates its business through three segments: Met, CAPP-Thermal and All Other. Through the Met segment, the company operates its met coal mines, while the CAPP-Thermal segment operates the company’s underground thermal coal mine. Discontinued operations, general corporate overhead, corporate assets and liabilities and elimination of intersegment activity are handled through the All Other segment.

Alpha Metallurgical Resources’ stock is traded publicly on the NYSE under the ticker AMR. The company’s stock has been listed on the NYSE since February 2021. As of 6 September 2022, it operated 20 active mines, one contract mine and eight coal preparation and load-out facilities.
