What Is ASOS PLC?
One of the largest online retailers in the world, London-based ASOS was started in 2000 and stands for AsSeenOnScreen. Most the company’s logistical operations take place in the United Kingdom, despite offering its products to over 200 countries from around the world. ASOS is the largest independent retailer in the UK, partly due to its aggressive diversification, including children’s clothing, shoes and even accessories.

ASOS went public in 2008, only eight years after its founding. The total amount raised during the IPO was a huge 15.6 billion pounds, with a share price of £23.50. The company ticker is ASC.L, traded on the Alternative Investment Market on the London Stock Exchange.

ASOS has over 800 different brands available for sale on its website. And while the company’s offering is tailored primarily for mobile shoppers, they are expanding to other devices in order to provide their shoppers with a more complete purchasing experience. A little-known fact is that the company’s name is actually pronounced "A-sauce".
