Starting back in 1950, OCI NV is an Amsterdam-based fertiliser producer that was also involved in construction and cement production in Africa and the Middle East. OCI NV, previously known as Orascom Construction Industries, was founded in Egypt by the Sawiris family, which served as its headquarters until 2013. The company sold all of its cement operations to the French firm Lafarge Group in 2008. OCI NV’s focus remains on nitrogen fertiliser and melamine.
OCI NV went public in 2013, with shares available for purchase at around €20 per unit. OCI NV stock is listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
In 2014, OCI NV announced a split, with construction activities spun-off into a new public company called Orascom Construction Limited. The new company is listed on the Cairo Exchange and the Nasdaq Dubai. Since the split, OCI NV performance has exceeded some expectations, with the company constructing one of the largest methanol plants in the world, in cooperation with its partners.
