Tractor Supply Company is the largest rural lifestyle retail company in the US and serves the domestic market. Founded in 1938, the company started out delivering tractor parts to its customers. It now has over 19,000 stores in 49 states, selling home improvement products, equine, pet and livestock supplies, workwear and leisure clothing, and goods for landowners. In addition to its brick-and-mortar stores, the company also has an e-commerce website and a mobile app, through which customers can order goods. Tractor Supply Company employs over 45,000 people across the US and is headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee.
The company also owns several subsidiary companies, including PetSense and Dels Farm Supply. PetSense is a speciality retail arm, with 177 stores across 23 states. Pet supplies and livestock products contribute close to 50% of the company’s total revenue. In 1969, Tractor Supply Company was acquired by Natural Industries, which in 1978 was itself bought by Fuqua Industries. Potential investors should note that Tractor Supply in Canada is under separate ownership, having been divested in 1987.
Tractor Supply Company is listed under the stock ticker TSCO on the NASDAQ. In 2021, Tractor Supply acquired Orscheln Farm and Home, a Midwestern family-owned chain of ranch and farm supplies retail outlets.
