Mantle is a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum. It originated from a community vote by BitDAO, one of the largest Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs), which consolidated its brand and token (BIT) into Mantle (MNT). Mantle's strength lies in its modular architecture, which significantly lowers transaction costs and increases throughput while inheriting the robust security of the underlying Ethereum blockchain.

The network uses an Optimistic Rollup model but enhances it with a unique feature: integrating with an external decentralised data availability layer. This separates the function of processing transactions from storing data, which further reduces gas fees. MNT serves as both the native gas token for the network and the governance token for the Mantle DAO, giving holders a direct say in the ecosystem's large treasury and future direction.
