Economic data in the U.S. showed a contraction in the manufacturing sector with weak readings of orders, production and export demand at a 3-year low. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrials was the only index that declined, however, as many investors anticipate that the Federal Reserve will take the necessary actions to boost the economy after these results.
Despite the fact that the E.U. unemployment rate reached 11.1% in the 17-nation region, E.U share prices hit a 2-month high as the deal struck by European Union leaders last week gave investors enough confidence to invest in European shares, as they predict even further policy actions from the ECB to help the economy in the region.
The DJ30 closed at 12,871.09, declining 8.70 points (-0.07%) while the SPX500 closed at 1,365.51, gaining 3.35 points (+0.25%) and the NASDAQ closed at 2,625.03, gaining 9.31 points (+0.36%) in today’s trading.
The CAC40 closed at 3,240.20, gaining 43.55 points (+1.36%), the FTSE100 closed at 5,640.64, gaining 69.49 points (+1.25%) and the DAX40 closed at 6,496.08, gaining 79.80 points (+1.24%).
Apple (AAPL) has agreed to pay $60 million to settle a dispute over the iPad trademark in China. Facebook (FB) will report its second quarter results on July 26, 2012 with results being crucial for the stock value.
