Today the European and U.S indices rose, as investors took comfort in comments from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to support the European Central bank’s initiative to fight the euro zone debt crisis. Furthermore hopes of additional ECB interest rate cuts were kept intact by news from euro zone, confirming a steady inflation in July.
U.S. economic news came in mixed, as a small rise in U.S. jobless claims surprised while home building slipped in July, missing expectations. The news renewed expectations that the Federal Reserve would engage in a third round of large-scale bond purchases, to help the slowing economy.

The DJ30 closed at 13,249.80, gaining 85.02 points (+0.65%), SPX500 closed at 1,415.52, gaining 9.99 points (+0.71%) and the NASDAQ closed at 2,768.09, gaining 32.62 points
(1.19%) in today’s trading.

The CAC40 closed at 3,480.49, gaining 31.29 points (+0.91%), FTSE100 closed at 5,834.51, gaining 1.47 points (+0.03%) and DAX40 closed at 6,996.29, gaining 49.49 points (+0.71%).

Today 271.1 million Facebook Inc. (FB) shares were released, reducing the number of available shares to 60 %. Facebook’s market value has been reduced by $40 billion since the IPO and has become the worst performer among all large IPOs on record. One of the biggest concerns is the company’s slowing revenue growth and whether or not it is able to create revenue on mobile advertising. With Facebook’s stock trading at around $20, Zuckerberg, who controls a majority of the company’s voting power, has lost more than $9 billion from his net worth. Facebook Inc. (FB) closed the in day $19.88 declining -6.23 %.
