Why eToro?

Why eToro?

More than a decade ago, eToro set out to open financial markets to everyone, and today more than 20 million registered users have simple, affordable access to stock investment.

The eToro platform is regulated by the FCA, ASIC and CySec, and your funds are protected by industry-leading security protocols and we will never share your private data without your permission.

Investing in the world’s leading stocks is now more affordable than ever. What’s more, there are also no limits on commission-free trades and you can buy fractional shares.

What does “zero commission” actually mean?

Zero commission means that no additional broking / dealing fee has been charged when trading stocks. Most brokers add a dealing charge when you buy or sell stocks through them, generally called a “commission”. We do not charge commissions. However, general fees still apply, such as FX conversion fees on non-USD deposits and withdrawals, withdrawal fees, and (if applicable) inactivity fees.
A market spread also applies, although this is not a “fee” charged by eToro.
Many brokers also charge a quarterly management fee and/or administration fee. eToro never charges any management, administration or ticketing fees. eToro even absorbs Stamp Duty and Financial Transaction Tax for clients where applicable: an additional saving of 0.5% in the UK, 1% in Ireland, 0.3% in France, 0.2% in Spain and 0.1% in Italy.

Your gains go to you, not to your broker

When you invest with a traditional broker, you first pay commission which eats into any potential gains — meaning that you will lose a part of your profits before you have even begun trading. With eToro, you won’t pay any markup on the shares you buy, so that the commission stays in your pocket, instead of going to your broker.

  • To which stocks does zero commission apply?

When you invest in the underlying asset – in other words, when you open a non-leveraged, BUY (long) stock position, you will pay zero commission.

Zero commission does not apply to CFD stock positions:

    * Leveraged positions.
    * SELL (short) positions
    * Positions on stocks traded on exchanges not specified here.

These positions are executed as CFDs, which means that they incur a commission and other relevant fees.

On eligible positions, the Open Trade window will show the message ‘You are buying the underlying asset commission free’.

  • Which users can buy stocks commission-free?

Zero commission stock investing is available to all eToro users.

  • Is there a limit to the number of shares I can buy commission-free?

No, there is no cap and no trading limit.

  • How long can I hold my stock positions without fees?

As long as you like. Overnight (rollover) fees are not charged for non-leveraged BUY/SELL stock positions no matter how long you hold them.”

  • How are you able to offer commission-free stocks on eToro?

eToro’s goal has always been to open the financial markets for everyone in a simple and transparent way. We strongly believe that anyone, anywhere, can and should have access to the financial markets. Making our platform easy to use, and removing entry barriers such as commission on stock investments, serves this purpose. It also attracts more customers to eToro, enabling us to grow our user base, and reducing commission. eToro serves millions of clients in more than 140 countries. The larger our user base gets, the easier it will be to lower our fees further.

Alongside our stock selection, we also offer other financial assets and features, such as leveraged trading and short orders, which incur fees that help finance eToro’s operations and are clearly displayed on the platform. You can read more about the fees which eToro charges on this page.

  • Does eToro pay dividends?

Yes. If you invest in shares of a company on eToro, you will be paid in proportion to the number of stocks you own whenever that company issues dividends.

  • Can I trade real-time stocks in a demo account?

Absolutely! Each new eToro user receives $100,000 in their eToro demo account, also known as a virtual money account, for free. The account gives you access to all of the assets available on eToro, including real-time stock trading.

  • Which exchanges are available on eToro?

eToro offers stocks from 17 exchanges around the world. However, please be aware that not every stock from each exchange is available on the platform. For a full list of stocks and exchanges, click here

  • Would I own shares on eToro?

When you open a non-leveraged BUY (long) position on a stock, you are investing in the underlying asset. The stock is purchased by eToro and recorded in our system under your name.

If you open a stock position on eToro, you are not issued a stock issuance certificate or allocated voting rights. Nonetheless, should the company issue dividends, your balance will be updated in accordance with your holdings.

  • Can I transfer my stock trades to another broker?

The eToro trading platform is not an exchange or a market. This means that you can only buy and sell stocks within the eToro trading platform. Currently, eToro does not offer the option to move open positions to another broker via the Automated Customer Account Transfer Service (ACATS) or any other system.

  • What other fees apply?

When depositing and withdrawing in non-USD currencies, a conversion fee will be incurred.  Diamond members are automatically exempt from FX conversion fees. Platinum and Platinum+ members receive a 50% discount. There is also a low fixed $5 fee for withdrawals and a $10 monthly inactivity fee after 12 months with no trading activity.

Although not a fee that is levied by eToro, each transaction is subject to a market spread upon opening and closing. This is determined by the market and is a characteristic that is consistent across all banks and brokers. FURTHER DETAILS IN RELATION TO OUR FEES MAY BE FOUND [HERE].
